Creating a job title could be compared to a Google search. You want to use keywords that are similar to what a job seeker may use to search for a job. For example, if you wanted to hire an office manager, you wouldn't use “Director of First Impressions” as the job title… Because an office manager wouldn’t begin their job hunt searching “Director of First Impressions”. 

3 tips for creating a catchy job title:

1. Put yourself in the shoes of an applicant. What words would you use to search for the job you’re going to list? What keywords are related to the job?

2. Check out other job boards, like Indeed, and see the most commonly used job titles. How are other companies titling their jobs that are similar to yours?

3. Be flexible! If a certain title doesn't seem to be doing the trick, change it and try something else. Don’t try to get too creative with it, a slight change may do the trick. Try using a job title that would be listed on a business card.

They are important for several reasons. Clarity! A clear job title will help the job seeker understand the nature of the job and expected duties. It will also make it easy to identify job opportunities relevant to their search. Recruitment! An effective job title will make the position more appealing and will create a strong first impression which will also attract more qualified applicants. Lastly, it can encourage Career Development! Employees are able to identify potential growth and advancement opportunities.
